Here's a very good op-ed from Public Knowledge CEO Chris Lewis on what this ruling means for the future of #libraries which sadly doesn't look good unless Congress acts, which I feel it's unlikely to come anytime soon if not ever. I love to be wrong though. https://www.technologyreview.com/2024/09/11/1103838/why-a-ruling-against-the-internet-archive-threatens-the-future-of-americas-libraries/

This from @molly0xfff is a very good as well making a case into why publishers hate libraries and how this ruling basically puts the existence of libraries at risk. https://www.citationneeded.news/hachette-v-internet-archive/

As many people mentioned, the #InternetArchive is facing a much bigger lawsuit from the music labels that would not only kill the Great 78 Project, but effectively kill the organization as well, hence why I said be prepared for a scenario where they'll cease to exist in 2-5 years.
Here's two very good pieces on the @internetarchive's current fight for it's survival, and it's not looking good. :(

The @internetarchive just got catastrophically hacked and this is bad obviously. https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/internet-archive-hacked-data-breach-impacts-31-million-users/
With the organization fighting for its very existence right now (see above posts/toots), this is at a worst time. I'm sure the publishers, record labels, and the copyright cartel have something to do with this as they surely paid these groups to do this.
As I and many others widely expected, the @internetarchive has formally decided not to take the book publishing lawsuit to the SCOTUS, thus giving #libraries a massive blow as I mentioned already.

Plus, this officially starts the clock to the #InternetArchive's inevitable demise as more lawsuits are coming their way and what a sad day that will be when I read their shutdown post down the road.
